Malaysian civil servant arrested over ‘D3V1L’ plate

KOTA KINABALU—A junior civil servant who drove around the city with a fake car license plate bearing the word “D3V1L” for the last three months here has been caught by the police.
The 33-year-old local from Papar was arrested by the policemen after he was caught in a special six hour operations along the Coastal Road in Asia City here from 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Kota Kinabalu City police chief Asst. Comm. M.Chandra said that he was arrested for using a fake license plate which is an offense under the Road Transport Act and carries a maximum fine of RM5000 or one year jail or both.
He said investigations found that the Perodua Viva vehicle owned by the driver did not have valid road tax and he had been driving the vehicle for the last three months from his home in Kinarut to his workplace in Likas here.
“We also detected another case last week where an owner had fixed ‘Selamat Hari Raya’ as the car plate and we have taken action. I urge motorist or car owners not to challenge the laws by doing such acts,” ACP Chandra told reporters at press conference here Friday.
He said during the special operations police had also booked four vans used without proper permits for ferry tourists.
