A British World War II veteran who once endured Post Traumatic Stress Disorder proposed to his high school sweetheart after a 72-year separation.

Roy Vickerman, a retired architect, and former soldier during the Battle of Normandy in 1944, once proposed to Nora Jackson in 1946, but the engagement shambled due to his traumatic experience after being relentlessly harmed by a Nazi sniper. Since then, they never established communication.

Both of them moved on and had their own families. Jackson, who was widowed for 14 years, admitted to The Telegraph that she dreamt of Vickerman ‘a couple of times’. On the other hand, the war veteran attempted to track his former fling to ask for forgiveness.

Vickerman’s wife passed away in 2012 and he told BBC, “I always thought a lot about Nora.”

He sought assistance from a radio program and he found out that Jackson, a retired factory worker, resides only 3 kilometers apart from his home.

“I’ve lived in the same house for 40 years and Nora’s been in her home for 40 years. We use the same shops and even go to the same chiropodist but in all that time we’ve never bumped into each other. I see her every day now,” he said in an interview with British media.

On March 26 (Saturday), Vickerman proposed again to Jackson with the same engagement ring he gave her seven decades ago. The lovely couple is now planning a summer wedding. Gianna Francesca Catolico, INQUIRER.net
