An incendiary device exploded near the national highway of Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat within two hours of a visit by Liberal Party vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo, but she was not in danger, according to her team.

“This morning, we arrived at Tacurong at 9:30 a.m. for a gathering and left at 11:20 a.m.,” the Camarines Sur representative said in a statement Tuesday night. “At 2 p.m., an improvised explosive device exploded near the national highway.”

“We are safe. But we sympathize with the wounded, and per reports, there were three who got injured,” Robredo said in Filipino.

The widow of Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo said she condemned the people behind the blast “especially considering the continued push towards economic prosperity in the entire Mindanao.”

“We call on the authorities to give immediate assistance to the casualties and to get to the bottom of the incident in order to ferret out the perpetrators.

“This shall not stop our continuing effort to find lasting solutions for peace in Mindanao,” Robredo said.
