Justice Secretary Caguioa takes oath as 174th SC justice

Justice Secretary Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa on Wednesday took his oath before Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno as the 174th Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

Caguioa filled up the spot vacated by Associate Justice Martin Villarama Jr. who retired early citing health reasons.

In his short message, Caguioa who earlier said he hopes that people would see him other than being the classmate of President Benigno Aquino III, said he “it is the man who justifies the position. I’ll try my best to justify it.”

Present during his oath taking are the Supreme Court Justices.

Caguioa, who left private practice in 2010, served as Aquino’s Chief Presidential Legal Counsel. His father was a Court of Appeals Justice.
