Aquino administration satisfaction rating picks up — SWS

MANILA, Philippines – More Filipinos have expressed satisfaction in the performance of the President Benigno Aquino III’s administration, the latest Social Weather Stations poll showed.

More than half or 59 percent of the 1,200 respondents said they were satisfied with the Aquino administration while 24 percent said they were dissatisfied.

The survey, conducted from September 26 to 29 among 1,200 respondents, also showed that 16 percent were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied. This resulted in a “good” +35 net score, a marked improvement from the “moderate” +29 during the second quarter of the year (56 percent satisfied, 26 percent dissatisfied, and 18 percent ambivalent).

The SWS categorizes its net satisfaction ratings as follows: +70 and above, “excellent”; +50 to +69, “very good”; +30 to +49, “good”; +10 to +29, “moderate”, +9 to -9, “neutral”; -10 to -29, “poor”; -30 to -49, “bad”; -50 to -69, “very bad”; -70 and below, “execrable.” A movement from one classification to another is considered an upgrade or a downgrade.

Of the issues faced by the administration, net satisfaction rating was “very good” (+52) in helping victims of disaster. It was also rated “good” in terms of helping the poor (+44), foreign relations (+43, up from +41), defending the country’s territorial rights (+42, down from +43), developing science and technology (+42), preparing for climate change (+41), providing enough supply of electricity (+41, down from +45), promoting welfare of overseas Filipino workers (+39, down from +42) and ensuring efficient transport system (+36).

On the other hand, net satisfaction rating slightly increased but remained “moderate” for reconciliation with communist rebels (+28, up from +17); reconciliation with Moro rebels (+27, up from +22); fighting terrorism (+23, up from +21); providing jobs (+21, up from +20); fighting crime (+14, up from +13); and eradicating graft and corruption (+14, up from +12). Improvements were also seen in the administration’s handling of the following issues: ensuring that no family will go hungry (remained neutral at -5, from -9), fighting inflation (upgraded to neutral -7 from poor -18), and ensuring oil firms don’t take advantage of oil prices (upgraded to neutral -7 from poor -19).

The survey, first published in BusinessWorld, also showed a 20-point increase in the Aquino administration’s net satisfaction rating in Metro Manila, from +16 in June to +36 in September. Net satisfaction of Visayas and Mindanao remained “good” but increased by four points (from +41 in June to +45 in September) and 12 points (from +34 to +46), respectively.

However, net satisfaction for the rest of Luzon remained “moderate,” dropping two points from +26 in June to +24 in September.

The administration’s net satisfaction rating increased among all socioeconomic classes, except class E, which remained at a “good” +38.

For class ABC, net satisfaction was upgraded from +27 in June to +47 in September. It also rose by one grade among class D, from +27 to +33.

The SWS survey has sampling error margins of ±3% for national percentages and ±6% for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
