Grace Poe: People’s trust inspires me, but 2016 polls still far off
MANILA, Philippines — Senator Grace Poe said on Tuesday, she was grateful that people appreciated the work she has done, in light of a recent survey showing she was the top choice for the vice presidency among voters if the 2016 elections were held today.
But Poe said the elections were too far off, and the surveys only asked about preferences.
She said she was happy that people trusted her because it gave her the impetus to continue performing well in her first public service job.
“You know, in this job, sometimes you think, is this really worthwhile, is it really worth it? Sometimes you go up against other people and it’s not that easy and you spend a lot of your hours on it. But if it comes out that a lot of people trust you, that gives me strength to continue what I have been doing,” she told reporters.
She again said that she still had a lot to prove.

Vice President Jejomar Binay has been topping surveys for the presidency, although his numbers took a hit recently because of the ongoing Senate investigation on the alleged overpricing of the Makati City Hall II or Makati Parking Building.
Witnesses in the probe have alleged that Binay received kickbacks for infrastructure projects and ordered the rigging of bidding processes for the contracts.
Poe, when asked, said she thought the Senate hearings had affected Binay’s ratings and boosted others’ ratings, because people were looking for an alternative.
She also said people wanted true and clean service.
“The people’s views have changed. They ask for not just good service, but also true service, and clean service,” she said.
