‘Luis’ now a tropical storm; Signal No. 1 raised in Catanduanes

MANILA, Philippines—Signal No. 1 was raised in Catanduanes as “Luis” (international name: Kalmaegi) intensified into a tropical storm Friday afternoon.

The storm will enhance the southwest monsoon in Luzon and will also bring rains and thunderstorms in Southern Philippines, state run Panahon.TV said.

“Luis” packs maximum sustained winds of 60 kilometers per hour to 80 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 26 kph.
