Phivolcs warns of aftershocks after Ilocos quake
MANILA, Philippines – Aftershocks are expected as a 5.3-magnitude quake rattled Ilocos Norte on Monday afternoon.
The earthquake struck 29 kilometers southwest of Burgos in Ilocos Norte and had a depth of 25 kilometers, the Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology said.
The tectonic quake, which was recorded at 1:56 p.m., was felt in several areas:
Intensity V – Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte
Intensity IV – Sarrat, Laoag and Paoay, Ilocos Norte
Intensity III – Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Claveria, Cagayan; Bangui, Ilocos Norte
Intensity II – Santa, Ilocos Sur; Callao, Peñablanca and Calayan, Cagayan
Intensity I – Baguio City
No immediate damage was recorded from the quake, Phivolcs said.
