Cepca’s top chessers clash in Tournament of Champions

THE BEST among the best woodpushers in the Cebu Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) will finally be known when the “Tournament of Champions” unfolds today at Lola Soling’s Barkadas Grill and Restobar in Marie Angela Compound, Casuntingan, Mandaue City.

The 12 monthly champions for this year will battle it out in their quest to become the grand winner of this event.

A separate tournament for those who didn’t win a monthly championship title will also be held today.

Retired electronics engineer Romulo Pialan, who now teaches chess via the internet, will lead the cast of the qualifiers. Also in the battle of the champions are Jimmy Ty, Jr., lawyer Jong Melendez, Percival Fiel, Rey Flores, Freddie Casagan, Maggie Dionson, Manny Abucay, Jun Kidlat, Peterson Sia, Harrison Chua, Domy Pialan and NM Arnold Cadiz. /Correspondent JADE S.
