MANILA, Philippines — A commotion erupted Monday afternoon at the Liwasang Bonifacio, where a humanitarian event organized by the religious sect Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ) is on-going.

The organizers lost control of the crowd lining up to get their “goodwill bags” as part of their medical and charity mission.

The deluge of people lining up could not be controlled as even those who had already received their goods kept coming back in line for more, event marshalls said.

At least three people, two elderly women and one female child, were seen being given medical attention.

Police tried to curb the turmoil by enforcing the line of people but as of 7 p.m., event marshalls announced that no more goods will be given away.
