2 elderly women fall in Zamboanga City buy-bust

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two sexagenarians were arrested here after they were allegedly caught selling more than one kilogram of shabu on Tuesday.

Hadji Sitti Bairulla Jalaidi, 60, a widow, and resident of Barangay Talon-Talon; and Norma Ambani Awod, 63, married, a retail store owner, and a resident of Barangay Cawit, were arrested during a buy-bust operation past 7 p.m. on Veterans Avenue here, according to Senior Superintendent Allan Nazarro, city police director.

“Jalaidi is listed as a local drug group leader based on our database on drug personalities, while Awod is a newly identified drug personality,” Nazarro said.

Nazarro said policemen under Superinendent Edilberto Alvarez and Chief Insp. Geronimo Miniosa led the buy-bust teams.

He said the two elderly women yielded the contraband, an analogue phone and about P7,000 in cash, including the buy-bust money.

Also seized from them was a Toyota Innova.

All recovered items had been sent to the regional crime laboratory in Western Mindanao while the two elderly women were detained at the city police headquarters.

Nazarro said charges for violation of the anti-drugs law were now being readied against Awod and Jalaidi. /lb
