Senate won’t heed House bid to abolish PCGG

The Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) will not be abolished under the Senate version of a bill strengthening the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).

Departing from the original intent of the authors and the House version, four Senate committees had approved a final version of the bill that would not lead to the OSG absorbing the functions of the PCGG and the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel.

The sponsor, Sen. Richard Gordon, whose original bill included a proviso on the PCGG’s abolition, recommended plenary approval of Senate Bill No. 1823, a consolidation of six similar measures expanding the powers of the solicitor general. —DJ Yap
