Construction worker plunges to his death

A 37-year-old construction worker was killed after he fell from the second floor of a house being constructed in barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City, at dawn yesterday.

Police said Angeles Gravino Jr., 37, a native of Clarin, Bohol province, came from a drinking session with fellow workers when the accident happened around 4 a.m.

The drinking binge ended around 10 p.m.

Jessie dela Cruz, a foreman at the construction site, said they went to sleep after the drinking session except Gravino who was seen roaming around while listening to a radio.

Carley Abayon, another construction worker, said he heard Gravino repeatedly mentioning number combinations “376” while listening to a masiao or jai-alai broadcast at around 3 a.m.

The surroundings were already silent when the workers were awakened by a thud around 4 a.m.

A bloodied Gravino was later found slumped on the ground.

The second floor of the house was about 16 feet high.
