2 motorcyclists die, another hurt in Quezon road accidents
LUCENA CITY – Two motorcycle riders died and another one injured in two separate road accidents in Sariaya town in Quezon province on Sunday, police said.
Report from Quezon police headquarters said motorcyclist Vicente Taguan, 43, who occupied the opposite lane, collided head-on with an incoming jeepney along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay (village) Concepcion 1 around 9:40 p.m. The victim died on the spot due to head and body injuries.
Earlier, motorcyclist Marvin Dañes, 34, accidentally bumped the rear of another motorcycle being driven by Ferdinand Clavo in Barangay Sto. Cristo around 4:30 p.m.
Both motorcyclists including Clavo’s wife Bernadita, who was riding at the back, all sustained injuries and were brought to United Doctors Hospital in Lucena for treatment. But Dañez died along the way to the hospital.
Supt. Rafael Torres, Sariaya police chief, said both casualties were not wearing the mandatory crash helmets for protection.
Wearing crash helmets for all riders of two-wheeled motorized vehicle is mandated under Republic Act No. 10054, otherwise known the motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009”.
