DOTr eyes ridding Edsa of 6,000 buses

Transport officials expect to rid Edsa of around 6,000 buses once the integrated bus terminal in Bocaue, Bulacan, becomes operational as early as 2020.

To be built on the Ciudad de Victoria complex owned by the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), the North Luzon Express Terminal will be the fourth integrated bus terminal to be opened to ease congestion in Metro Manila and make commuting safer.

The other terminals which are under construction are the Taguig Integrated Terminal Exchange and Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange. The Metro Manila Eastern Multimodal Terminal in Marikina became operational last year.

Last week, transport and public works officials signed a memorandum of understanding with North Luzon Express Terminal Inc. for the construction of the 11.5-hectare terminal which could cater to at least 96,000 daily passengers going to and from the north.

Tim Orbos, the transport undersecretary for roads, said that with the complex able to accommodate around 6,000 buses, it would significantly reduce congestion in the metropolis.
