Sandiganbayan to await action on Jinggoy Estrada travel
The Sandiganbayan said on Monday it would have to wait for the Ombudsman prosecutors on the issue of former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada’s stint as a speaker for a program that was disowned by a United States-based advocacy group on good governance.
Associate Justice Rafael Lagos said that “if the prosecution doesn’t file anything, we cannot act on mere newspaper accounts.”
Estrada’s motion to travel stated that he was invited by the US Pinoys for Good Governance (USPGG) to speak in a May 20 meeting in Michigan.
USPGG chair Loida Nicolas Lewis and president Rodel Rodis disowned the invitation. —Vince F. Nonato
