Bishop: Not wrong to be happy during Holy Week
DAGUPAN CITY — It is not wrong for Christians to be happy as they reflect on Christ’s sufferings and death on the Cross this Holy Week, according to Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas.
“There is no law requiring us to put on a sad face this week,” Villegas said in a post on the Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese website on Sunday.
“Be happy this week. Resist that gloomy sad face. They do not lead to holiness,” he added.
But the happiness Christians must experience must be “the happiness that proves holiness. It is not the happiness of merrymaking… It is not the pleasure of good food and booze. It is not the happiness of the picnic or excursion. It is not that kind of happiness,” he said.
A key to a happy Holy Week, he said, is to obey laws. —Gabriel Cardinoza
