Ex-inmate killed by former co-inmate

A former inmate was stabbed and shot dead by another ex-inmate in barangay Calamba, Cebu City yesterday morning.

Andres Carpila died with a stab wound in the abdomen and gunshot wounds in the arm and chest.

The alleged assailant, Marlon Villahermosa, was arrested by police in a follow-up operation.

Police said the two men bore grudges against each other while they were detained at the Cebu City Jail.

SPO3 Joel Suello of the San Nicolas police said there were reports that Carpila repeatedly mauled Villahermosa when they were still detained.

Police said Carpila and his live-in partner, Merlyn Dionson, 22, were walking along a road on their way to buy food.

Along the way, the couple met Villahermosa.  The former inmates argued and a scuffle ensued.

Police said Villahermosa stabbed Carpila before finishing him off with gunshots to the body.

A knife was recovered at the crime scene.

Carpila was already dead when paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation arrived.

Police rushed to barangay Guadalupe after receiving reports that Villahermosa was spotted there. The suspect, however, was nowhere to be found in Guadalupe.

Later that day, police received a tip that Villahermosa went to Quijano compound where the suspect was finally arrested.

Police said Villahermosa refused to talk when he was arrested.
