Operations were temporarily disrupted at the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) line on Thursday evening, February 1, after a southbound train yet again suffered another electrical failure.

In a service report, the MRT-3 management said 1,000 commuters were offloaded at the Shaw Boulevard Station at 5:48 p.m. after the electrical failure affected the train’s motor.

MRT-3 media relations officer Aly Narvaez said the electrical failure may have been caused by worn-out electrical sub-components, such as the train’s insulator, regulator and the main chopper.

The train was reeled into the MRT depot for preventive maintenance and replacement of electrical components, Narvaez said.

The offloaded passengers were then loaded in the next train which arrived eight minutes after the glitch, she said.

As of 6.p.m., Narvaez said only nine trains were operational and running in the transit line. /jpv
