Lectures to highlight ‘Go Green Cebu Fair’

SHANGRI-LA’s Mactan Resort and Spa Cebu has been recognized for its environmental initiatives for having won the Asean Green Hotel award twice.

In line with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) mission, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa Cebu will host its third Go Green Cebu Fair on Nov. 25.

After the success of the first two green fairs, the theme of the third is “Green on the Go.”

The event aims to gather stakeholders from across all sectors in a comprehensive conference to discuss sustainable practices that mitigate the environmental impact of individual and corporate actions.

FEATURED STORIES

The conference will begin with a series of lectures focusing on personal motivation. Alan Mciver, commercial director of Avanti Environmental, one of the largest privately held environmental management companies in the United Kingdom, will discuss green principles in waste management.

Anna Meloto-Wilk will share her experiences in social entrepreneurship and grassroots participation. She is the president of Gandang Kalikasan, an offshoot of the Gawad Kalinga advocacy, as well as Human Heart Nature, a company that supplies personal-care products that are completely organic, chemical-free and locally sourced.

Certified integrative well-being coach Mary Jean Netario Cruz will share how personal wellness can be achieved through healthy lifestyle choices.

The scope of discussions expands to include community initiatives, with young environmental advocate Anna Oposa talking about intergenerational responsibility, and university lecturer Carlos Libosada Jr. sharing his views on sustainable ecotourism.

Representatives from the corporate sector will wrap up the series. Regina Lopez, managing director of ABS-CBN Foundation, will share details of the Bantay Kalikasan project. Ma. Luisa Daya-Garcia, principal architect of MLDDG & Associates, will discuss green architecture.

Breakout sessions will show straightforward green principles in practical applications and encourage participants to make greener lifestyle choices.

Topics include green cooking and vermicomposting, an initiative that the resort has successfully adopted.

Cebuano designers Jun-Jun Escario, Oj Hofer, Protacio Empaces and Arcy Gayatin will showcase their ecologically friendly collections at a fashion show to conclude the whole-day affair.

To participate in the fair, guests may either choose the all-day pass at P2,000, which includes buffet lunch at Tides, or the P500 pass, which includes snacks. Students, teachers and government employees enjoy a special rate of P350, including snacks.
