2 killed, cop hurt in Maguindanao shooting
DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao – Two people were killed while a policeman was wounded during a shooting incident that triggered a police manhunt here, the police said on Monday.
Police Officer (PO) 2 Jhemin Untong, the town’s police investigator, said farmer Dong Talipasan, 50, of Barangay Dalican was at the national highway when shot dead over the weekend by Usop Tatok Guiadel, 27, of the neighboring town of Talitay.
Guiadel fled on a motorbike, prompting authorities to consequently launch a manhunt.
At a checkpoint, police officers stopped Guiadel. But the suspect fired shots at policemen, hitting PO1 Mohaliden Ladsid.
Ladsid, however, managed to return fire, and killed Guiadel, according to Untong.
Police recovered from the slain suspect a cal. 45-pistol and the motorbike.
Ladsid is currently recuperating at a government hospital in Cotabato City.
Meanwhile, Tangub City police said they still have no lead in the January 12 killing of Jerenil Managaytay, a 32-year-old education program specialist of the town.
Managaytay was on his way home when attacked by men riding in tandem, who wore full face helmets. /kga
