SC to hold memorial service for Justice Justo Torres Jr.
The Supreme Court (SC) will hold a memorial service for the late Associate Justice Justo Torres Jr. on Thursday, Dec. 28, at the tribunal’s building in Padre Faura, Manila.
Torres, the 138th magistrate of the country’s highest judicial body, passed away at the age of 90 on Dec. 26.
The SC Public Information Office said the memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the tribunal’s session hall.
A former associate justice of the Court of Appeals, Torres was the 11th justice appointed to the high court by former President Fidel Ramos, serving from March 11, 1996, until he reached the mandatory retirement age of 70 on Nov. 1, 1997.
After his brief stint in the SC, Torres became a vice chancellor of the Philippine Judicial Academy, which provides continuing education and training for justices, judges, lawyers and court personnel.
