Mindoro town under state of calamity after ‘Urduja’ leaves millions of losses
CITY OF CALAPAN – Naujan town in Oriental Mindoro was declared under state of calamity Monday after disaster authorities noted millions of losses in agriculture, livestock and fisheries left by Tropical Storm “Urduja” (international name: Kai-tak), an official said Tuesday.
The Naujan municipal disaster risk reduction management council (MDRRMC) recommended the declaration to the Sangguniang Bayan after the agency recorded P1.1 million of damage in fisheries, P155,000 worth of damaged facilities and P1.7 million stocks of warehouse products destroyed by the storm in the town, MDRRMC officer Jeory Geroleo said.
Geroleo said three barangays (villages) also reported a total of P200,000 worth of damaged livestock.
Geroleo said the information were initial and partial damage also include 4,000 hectares of agricultural crops. Around 32,000 people were also affected by Urduja. /je
