352 athletes, coaches stranded in Masbate town in need of water
LEGAZPI CITY — A total of 352 student-athletes, coaches, and sporting officials from Ticao Island, who have been stranded in Mobo town in Masbate province, since Dec. 14 at the end of the 2017 Provincial Meet, are in dire need of water supply, coach Janice Almoete told the Inquirer on Saturday.
“Our only problem here is the water supply,” Almoete, one of the coaches housed at Pinamarbuhan Elementary School in Mobo, said. “But we are thankful that there are kind people here who offer their houses where we can take baths.””
She said that a youth group fed them porridge and the Masbate government gave them canned goods and rice.
As of this writing, Masbate was still under Storm Signal No. 2 due to Tropical Storm “Urduja.”
In Masbate City, 385 athletes, coaches, and officials were also stranded.
Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, 81 families were displaced to five difference evacuation centers in the province.
The towns of Mandaon, Balud, San Jacinto, Placer, and Esparanza have all recorded a total of 259 displaced individuals.
