The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) was established by virtue of Republic Act No. 4121, which was enacted on Dec. 8, 1933. In 1978, under the Marcos administration, it was renamed Ministry of Labor and Employment. On Jan. 31, 1987, it was back to being called DOLE under the Cory Aquino presidency. With its main office located on General Luna Street in Intramuros, Manila, the department currently has 10 attached agencies, 17 regional offices and 36 overseas labor offices. —Marielle Medina
