Authorities searching for missing laborer carried away by river in Romblon
CITY OF CALAPAN — Disaster responders are on a search-and-rescue operation for a laborer who went missing on Saturday morning while crossing a river in Magdiwang town in Romblon province.
According to a report from the Magdiwang Municipal Police Station, Jonel Romero, 32, was reported missing by his brother-in-law, Oraly Roxana, at around 10:30 a.m. after failing to come home.
Romero, a resident of Sitio Agsalay, Barangay Jao-asan, was last seen Friday at about 9 p.m.
Investigators found out that Romero was crossing a river on his way home when the strong current of flooded river carried him away.
Involved in the search-and-rescue operation are the Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council, Bureau of Fire Protection and the Philippine Coast Guard. –Madonna T. Virola
