Makati cop shoots man ‘for self-defense’
A man was shot and wounded by a policeman conducting Oplan Galugad in Makati on Wednesday morning.
A man, only identified as alias “Abon,” is still being treated at Ospital ng Makati after figuring in a shootout with PO2 Jonathan Flores of the Makati police community precinct 1 around 10 a.m.
In a report by the Southern Police District, Flores and PO1 Salvador Silverio were conducting Oplan Galugad – or serving warrants of arrest – in Barangay Tejeros.
When they reached an alley leading to Kalayaan Avenue, Flores noticed “something bulky” tucked on the waist of alias Abon who was riding a bicycle.
Flores tried to chase Abon but the latter pulled out an improvised shotgun (sumpak), prompting the police officer to retaliate, hitting the man in the right side of his body.
Abon’s sumpak – loaded with a bullet and three sachets of shabu – were confiscated.
