Faeldon skips Senate probe, appeals support for new BOC chief

Embattled Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon skipped Tuesday’s Senate hearing, in connection with the P6.4-billion shabu shipment, barely a day after President Rodrigo Duterte accepted his courtesy resignation.

This development came after the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee continued on Tuesday the hearing on the shipment of 605 kilograms of shabu (crystal meth) from China that slipped into the country and believed to be the largest delivery of drugs under the Duterte administration.

At a late press conference on Monday, the President announced that he will replace Faeldon, who sought to be replaced thrice at the BOC.

Duterte tapped former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) director Isidro Lapeña to take over the BOC leadership.

Faeldon on Tuesday said his resignation from his post is “the best for our country.”

“I thank everyone who has supported the Bureau of Customs during my stay and I appeal to the BOC employees and to the public to support the new commissioner. Thank you very much,” Faeldon said. JPV
