Comelec chief says he has sued wife

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chief Andres “Andy” Bautista disclosed on Wednesday that he had filed charges against his estranged wife, Patricia.

“We already filed a case,” Bautista said in an interview over ABS-CBN News Channel’s “Headstart.”

“We filed a case for grave coercion, for qualified theft and robbery, and also for extortion which is in the form of grave threats and life threats,” he said.

Bautista, who is facing accusations of unexplained wealth from his wife, said that he, along with his family, lodged the charges Tuesday.

The Comelec chief told INQUIRER.net that he lodged the cases at the Taguig Prosecutor’s Office.

The poll chief also criticized Patricia for showing documents to the media, saying that they should properly discuss her allegations in court.

“All of these would be explained in due time, where these moneys are coming from. But why in media eh? Why are they doing this as a media play? Why don’t you file the necessary cases in the court?” the Comelec chair said. With a report from Tetch Torres-Tupas/IDL
