15 bus passengers hurt in Occidental Mindoro road accident
CITY OF CALAPAN – Fifteen passengers of a bus en route to San Jose town in Occidental Mindoro from this city were injured after the driver lost control of the vehicle, which served off the national road in Magsaysay town Sunday morning.
According to the Mimaropa Police Regional Office, the bus from the Dimple Star Transport was being driven by Joey Quintia, 51, a resident of Sampaguita, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.
The incident happened in Barangay Nicolas at around 8:45 a.m.
The bus, which had 20 people on board, was traveling from Calapan to San Jose. On reaching the mountainous part of the village, the bus lost its brakes while traveling down the slope of the road.
The driver told police he swerved the vehicle to the left portion of the mountain so it would stop, avoiding serious injuries to passengers and severe damage to the bus.
The injured passengers were all from Occidental Mindoro. Six others, including the driver were unhurt. –Madonna T. Virola /atm
