Resorts World Manila: Aid extended to casualties of attack
Resorts World Manila on Friday said it has extended medical assistance to 54 people injured in an attack by a lone gunman who set himself and parts of the hotel-casino on fire.
“This is a sad day for Resorts World Manila,” said Resorts World Manila corporate communications director Owen Cammayo in a social media post.
Cammayo said the gunman entered the casino at around midnight, fired shots and set gaming tables on fire.
“The Company’s security, together with police authorities, launched a hot pursuit and at around 7 a.m. this morning, the gunman was found dead,” he said. “He had taken his own life by setting himself on fire followed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

He said the casino’s security team and the Bureau of Fire Protection are conducting search and rescue operations in the building.
“It is with deep regret that we have been informed of several casualties, the number and identities of whom have yet to be determined. As soon as this information becomes available, we shall be informing their loved ones,” he said.
“We ask for your understanding during this difficult time,” he added. “This cowardly act of a deranged mind will not defeat the spirit on which Resorts World Manila was built. With your prayers, we will overcome this tragedy.”
