17-month-old baby drowns in water-filled pit in Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY — A 17-month-old baby girl was found dead on Thursday (April 6) in an open pit filled with water at Infanta town in Pangasinan province.

The remains of Laline Joy Alonzo were discovered at 4:30 p.m. by a salt factory worker who was about to dump used rice hulls into the pit in Barangay (village) Cato.

The worker ran to alert the girl’s parents, who were washing clothes at the time.

Cato village chief Charlito Maniago said the baby may have crawled into the pit without her parents noticing her. CBB/rga
