SILANG, Cavite-A bonfire for burning trash has spread causing a grass fire in this town, with black smoke visible from the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), where President Rodrigo Duterte was attending the police cadets’ graduation on Friday.

Silang police chief Chief Inspector Lory Tarrazona said the fire started around 12:15 p.m. in Barangay (village) Hukay, a five minute drive from the PNPA.

“Someone started a bonfire to burn trash that caused the grass fire,” he said. He said the fire covered less than a hundred square meters.

Tarrazona said firefighters were already in the area. There were no houses nearby and Tarrazona said no one was hurt./rga
