/ 12:13 AM January 31, 2017

Today, Jan. 31, is the 100th birth anniversary of National Artist for Music Jose Maceda. A composer, teacher and performer, Maceda’s research studies and fieldwork have resulted in an immense collection of recorded music taken from the remotest mountain villages and island communities. His compositions include Ugma-ugma (1963), Pagsamba (1968) and Udlot-udlot (1975). He was named National Artist in 1997. Maceda died on May 5, 2004. —MARIELLE MEDINA, INQUIRER RESEARCH
