MANILA, Philippines—The Royal Audiencia, which preceded the present Supreme Court, was established on May 5, 1583, during the Spanish occupation of the Philippines. Established through a royal decree, it was composed, among others, of a president, justices and a fiscal. The Royal Audiencia also exercised administrative functions apart from judicial responsibilities.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
