Robbers break into house of American, wife in Lipa, steal cash, jewels

SAN PEDRO CITY – Armed robbers attacked the house of an American national and his Filipina wife in a private subdivision in Lipa City in Batangas province, police on Tuesday said.

A report from the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (CALABARZON) regional police said robbers entered the house of couple Charles Allen and Maria Teresa Crowell in Tierra Maria subdivision in Barangay (village) Anilao around 10 p.m. Monday.

In a phone interview, Lipa City police chief Supt. Carlos Barde said four masked men armed with short firearms carted away P165,000 cash, three cellphones, and jewelry worth P750,000. The couple was unhurt.

“The suspects entered through the back of the house. They used a brick to smash open the glass wall,” Barde said.

Barde said the city police put up a P50,000 reward for the arrest of the suspects while follow up investigation continues.

Meanwhile, in Silang town in Cavite province, Kangsoo Pak, 43, a Korean national, also fell victim to robbers around 9:30 a.m., also on Monday, the same police report said. He lost his cellphone worth P37,000 and cash amounting to P57,000 to a lone thief. CDG/rga
