PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos said Espinosa’s cell inside the detention facility is already being prepared by the PNP’s Headquarters Support Service (HSS), which supervises the Custodial Center.

Last Nov. 5, Kerwin’s father Albuera, Leyte Rolando Espinosa Sr. was killed inside his cell when the police raided the Baybay City sub-provincial jail in Leyte in search for illegal drugs and firearms.

The death of the mayor and his fellow inmate Raul Yap has raised questions, prompting the Senate and the PNP to launch a probe on the legality of the search operation carried out by the members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 8 and Regional Maritime Unit (RMU). JE/rga
