Top Davao law school turns 50 years old

The Ateneo de Davao University College of Law will celebrate on Oct. 29, 2011, its 50th founding anniversary at the grand ballroom of the Apo View Hotel in Davao City.

The Golden Jubilee celebration theme is: “50 Years: A Celebration of Excellence and Service.” Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, a Davao native, is main speaker and guest of honor.

The Ateneo de Davao Law School opened in 1961 and its first graduates in 1965 were the late Sixto Morales, former postmaster general; Dario Rama, ex-elections commissioner; and Jose Restauro, who all became successful lawyers.

It had five graduates in 1966. Among them was the late Hildegardo F. Iñigo, who placed eighth in the bar exams. Iñigo served as dean of the law school from 1990 until his death in September 2007.

The law school is now considered as one of the country’s top five.

As part of the Golden Jubilee celebration, the Ateneo de Davao Law School Alumni Association Inc. launched since July a series of medical missions and legal clinics in Davao City.

Alumni also held a garage sale and auction from Oct. 14-15 to raise funds for projects.

On Oct. 29, the celebration would start with a Mass at 8 a.m. at the law school chapel. This would be followed by a motorcade.
