Disaster officials are monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) in the Philippine area of responsibility which is likely to develop into a tropical cyclone, according to the weather bureau.

In its 11 a.m. weather advisory on Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was spotted at 990 kilometers east of Surigao City, and is expected to spawn heavy rains and thunderstorms in the eastern Visayas and Caraga regions. —JAYMEE T.
