CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY— Former Senate President Aquilino Pimentel Jr. said the Duterte government’s push for federalism “should not be interpreted as a partisan approach to the solution of the problems of the nation.”

Pimentel, who spoke at a forum here on Monday, said the planned change in the system of government was not meant to favor the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan but of the entire Filipino people.

Pimentel said the proposed shift to federalism was not anchored on a particular model but the country’s version would incorporate the good features of existing ones.

“We are not advocating that we copy the US model, the Malaysian model, the Indian model, the Scandinavian model,” he said. —INQUIRER MINDANAO
