Domestic row in Manila mistaken for hostage taking–incident
MANILA, Philippines — A domestic dispute in Manila earlier mistaken for a hostage-taking incident Monday morning has been resolved, according to a report on Radyo Inquirer 990AM.
Quoting authorities, the report said that a commotion inside a home at the corner of Miguelin Street and España Boulevard in Manila drew the attention of police as a man, armed with a kitchen knife, barred his wife and children from leaving their residence.
Superintendent Romeo Balasabas of Station 4 of the Manila Police District explained in an interview that there was no hostage-taking incident and that the man may have taken the knife for protection when he saw the police.
Balasabas said that the man’s parents sought the help of village officials to solve the argument, who in turn called the police.
The police thought that they were called in to act on a hostage-taking incident, Balasabas added.
He said that the man calmed down after speaking with some relatives, he said.
