Cop killed in Ilocos Norte town

SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte—A police officer was shot dead by an unidentified man at 7:30 a.m. on Monday in front of his residence along the national highway in San Pablo village.

PO1 Perfecto Mike Joaquin, 45, was attacked when he returned home after bringing his son to the Bingao National High School.

Joaquin was rushed to the Black Nazarene Hospital but the attending physician failed to revive the victim.

At the crime scene, investigators found eight empty shells fired from a caliber .45 pistol.

Joaquin served in the Police Community Relations Office in Camp Capt. Valentin S. Juan in Laoag City before he was assigned at the Adams police station, said Chief Insp. Dexter Diovic Corpuz, the provincial police spokesman.

Joaquin had been active in organizing Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs), he said. RAM/rga
