TODAY, Aug. 15, is the 88th birth anniversary of National Artist for Architecture, Leandro V. Locsin. An important figure in Philippine architecture, Locsin created 75 residences and 88 buildings, including 11 churches and chapels, 23 public buildings, 48 commercial buildings, six major hotels and an airport terminal building from 1955 to 1994. Among his most notable works were the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Folk Arts Theater and Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City. Locsin was named National Artist in 1990. He died on Nov. 15, 1994. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
