PNP to look into alleged IS threat on Miss U pageant in PH

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is looking into alleged terror threats by the Islamic State (IS) to bomb the country when it hosts the Miss Universe pageant in January 2017.

PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos told the media that the bomb threat was being validated by the intelligence units of the police.

“Information about the alleged ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) threat on the holding of Miss Universe (on Jan. 30) 2017 will be validated by the tasked units,” Carlos said.

Recently, a pro-ISIS channel posted an 18-minute video showing how to manufacture an explosive belt and a timed hand grenade manual and suggesting to “create bomb for Miss Universe.”

The Miss Universe titleholder is Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.

The police and military have repeatedly denied the presence in the country of ISIS members, only sympathizers of the terror group./rga
