Misuari to get safe conduct pass to see Duterte in Zambo

ZAMBOANGA CITY—Fugitive Moro leader Nur Misuari, the founding chair of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), and his men will not be arrested when they set foot on the city, to meet with President Rodrigo Duterte, according to police.

Supt. Luisito Magnaye, the city police chief, said police would not arrest Misuari if the President so orders.

Misuari is facing charges for the 2013 Zamboanga siege, when MNLF forces fought with government troops in this city, displacing thousands of residents. The MNLF forces also held residents hostage during the fighting.

Mr. Duterte earlier said he would issue a safe conduct pass to Misuari when he meets with the MNLF leader to talk about peace.

But some of the former hostages in the Zamboanga siege do not agree with the President.
