Accused top cop not laughing now

“I would laugh when accusations against me about illegal drugs were brought up publicly. But when it was the President himself saying it and naming me, my world fell apart.”

This was retired Gen. Vicente Loot, now mayor of Daanbantayan, Cebu, giving his side to the media at Philippine National Police headquarters at Camp Crame on Thursday evening as he waited to meet with PNP Director General Ronald de la Rosa.

“I can say I never benefited from illegal drugs,” Loot said.

Although disheartened by the “trial by publicity,” Loot said he had no right to question the President.
