Robredo lauds Supreme Court’s ‘latest decision’ postponing ARMM elections

Says it will pave way for reforms and dev’t programs

MANILA, Philippines—The Supreme Court’s move to postpone the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) elections to 2013 would make implementation of development programs and internal institutional reforms possible, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo said Tuesday.

He said the people of ARMM will benefit from reform initiatives which will be implemented soon.

The decision would “demonstrate that good governance is possible in ARMM,” said Robredo, adding that the transition team for the soon-to-be-appointed ARMM officials was prepared for work.

He said that a P8.5 billion fund for the development of the region has been set aside by President Benigno Aquino III.
