Blast hits motorbike at GenSan plaza

KORONADAL CITY—Unidentified armed men detonated a bomb in General Santos City around noon Friday but no casualties were reported.

Chief Superintendent Noel Armilla, Central Mindanao police director, told a local radio station that the bomb, hidden in the compartment of a motorbike, went off around 12:30 noon near the Oval Plaza.

Armilla said three motorcycles parked near the covered court were also damaged in the explosion.

“Our bomb experts are still trying to figure out what type of explosive was used as well as the identity of the group behind the blast,” he said.

The General Santos bomb attack came a day after police  killed two suspected Abu Sayyaf sympathizers in Maasim town in Sarangani province.

Mayor Ronnel Rivera of General Santos City has called on the public to remain calm but vigilant while the authorities are conducting an investigation.
