TODAY, Feb. 22, is the 118th birth anniversary of National Artist for Literature Lazaro Francisco. Known as the Master of Tagalog Novel, Francisco also established the “Kapatiran ng mga Alagad ng Wikang Pilipino” in 1958. Among his literary masterpieces were the novels Ama, Bayang Nagpatiwakal, Maganda Pa Ang Daigdig, and Daluyong. Francisco died on June 17, 1980 and was posthumously named National Artist in 2009.
