Female cop on woman lover’s death: It’s overkill

CALAPE, Bohol—A female police officer cried foul over the killing of her lover by police during a standoff that followed her lover’s assault on the officer’s family, killing the officer’s mother and brother and ending up dead after policemen caught up with her.

PO1 Rosalie Cuario told the Inquirer that her lover, Maricel Ramos, had been a victim of excessive force by policemen who cornered Maricel after Maricel shot and killed Rosalie’s mother and brother following a failed attempt to be informed of Rosalie’s whereabouts by the Cuario family.

Rosalie, who was not present in the standoff between Maricel and policemen, said the way Maricel was shot by policemen showed an overkill. Maricel was shot twice in the head.

“Why did they have to kill her? How many shots were fired? She was already helpless. They could have shot her in the legs or hands,” said Rosalie.

Rosalie said Maricel could not have fired at the policemen, as the policemen claimed, because the gun that Maricel was carrying after killing Rosalie’s mother and brother was not loaded anymore.

“It was really an overkill,” said Rosalie. “They could have just imprisoned her,” she said.

Rosalie’s statement was supported by Maricel’s younger brother, Richard, who was in the lesbian lovers’ house where Maricel was cornered by policemen following the killing of Rosalie’s mother and brother.

But Insp. Cresente Gurrea, chief of the Calape town police station in Bohol province, countered the stories of Rosalie and Richard.

Gurrea said Maricel shot at policemen who were trying to get near her.

“There was no overkill,” said Gurrea. “My men shot only twice,” he said.
